3 Golden Nuggets

  1. How you look makes a statement (either good or bad). People judge a book by a cover, and this is very true for your plumbing technicians. A clean, nice uniform separates you immediately from your competition.
  2. Uniforms professionalize your business. Your technicians can be tatted, have gauges, missing teeth – a uniform overcomes all those things. The uniforms instantly give you a professional image.
  3. Uniforms call your team up. It sets the expectation correctly and gives your guys something better to strive for. It’s true. The clothes make the man.

Dirty Clothes Don’t Make You More Money

You want to easily increase the value of your plumbing service? Make your guys wear uniforms. Uniforms are a money maker.

Why? Because people judge a book by its cover, and this is never more true than for your plumbing technicians. How they’re dressed makes a statement (either a good one or a bad one.)

These guys out there, all dirty and covered in glue and pipe dope are giving your business a bad name. It’s telling your customers, and prospective customers, they don’t respect themselves and they don’t respect their trade. You may have the best plumber in the world, but the customer will judge him by how he looks.

(16:10) Uniforms professionalize your business and improve your image. This image thing matters to the success of your business. (You’re heard us say it before – it ain’t about plumbing.) A guy can be tatted out, have gauges, and teeth missing …  a uniform overcomes all those things!

When your guys present to the customer all clean and pressed with shoes that shine and socks that match, your customers are surprised.

(12:50) When they say, “you don’t look like a plumber,” we love that. What they just really said is “I’m willing to pay you more.”

Uniforms Get You More Plumbing Leads

(14:34) Your prospective customers see your plumbing technicians when they are out and about – running into the gas station, sitting in the truck, going into Jimmy John’s. If they see a dirty, slovenly, person they ask themselves, “Do I want that in my house?” The brain says, nope. Don’t even consider those guys. And when it matters they go with a different company.

But nice, clean uniforms make a great statement. They tell the prospective customer, we’re different. We’re special. We take pride in ourselves and take pride in our work

Great uniforms (and new trucks):

    • get your business noticed,
    • get your business remembered, and
    • get your business the next job.
Uniforms Develop Your Employees And Improve Performance

(25:35) Uniforms call your team up and help them to elevate themselves. It gives your guys something better to strive for.

You ever heard the statement the clothes make the man? There’s some truth to that. If they want to be a professional, they have to respect themselves and their trades enough to look professional.

And it’s not just wearing the uniform but the expectations that go with it.

(20:19) As owner, you have some non-negotiables with your team, and this is one of them:

  • Start your day clean! Wash your uniform every day and make sure it’s pressed.
  • The uniform includes your socks and shoes. Socks should match and shoes should not be dirty.
  • Wear a belt that matches. Don’t have one? Buy one from Walmart.
  • Have an undershirt. On dirty jobs, take off your nice shirt to keep it clean.
  • Get really dirty? Plumbing pros keep an extra  clean set in the truck. You always present clean to the customer.

I’ve been around the block. If they don’t care about how they look, I guaran-dagone-tee you, their work probably sucks.
