Re-Address Your Why
[12:30] Why are you doing this plumbing thing? It’s not because you like plumbing or you love plumbing. If you love plumbing, go be a plumber for someone, there’s nothing wrong with that.
But when push comes to shove, that’s not enough. What is enough is, why me? What’s in it for me? What’s in it for us, me and my wife, my family? Why am I putting up dealing with the customers who are pushy or sometimes bullies? Or the employees, the that guys every week, someone off because a toe hurts or they got the sniffles.
You need to revisit your why and remember why you put up with the hardships of owning your own plumbing business. Revisiting and reaffirming those measurable things will help motivate, focus, and drive forward for 2022.
It’s Time to Just Do It
[21:25] There’s a difference between being an entrepreneur and a wantrepreneur.
For a wantrepreneur, there’s many reasons why they can’t. There’s just not enough of this, there’s not enough that, I didn’t come from this, I don’t have that. All these reasons, I’m tired. I just didn’t get the breaks. And then it goes all the way to, well, I gotta wait till everything’s perfect.
An entrepreneur grabs the bull by the horns and makes it happen. There is no such thing as perfect timing, so now is the time to hire the new tech, to buy the truck, to bring on a CSR.
2022 is the time to just get it done.
Expand Your Horizons
[30:55] If you really wanna make 2022 different and achieve the success and lifestyle that you desire, you gotta expand and grow yourself.
You didn’t get good at plumbing by just staying and pulling parts for guys or running to the truck, right? You had to had to learn new things. And what’s really happening as you’re learning is that you’re expanding yourself, you’re growing yourself, you’re learning a new discipline, which all winds up going right back to helping your business.
You get used to that change, that being comfortable, being uncomfortable. Stop being only in rooms where you’re the smartest one. Challenge yourself to surround yourself (at least sometimes) with people who are smarter than you, that are more successful than you, or challenge the way you think. You’ll be surprised how much that benefits your business.
